We have five different teachers that can teach music theory. It is often included in a music lesson, but can also be taught separately.

Curriculum

 

Music theory is taught using the Trinity Guildhall of London, the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music , or the UNISA syllabus. The classes start at Grade 1 level and end at Grade 8.

 
 

Adéle Visser

Adéle specializes in teaching both classical and contemporary piano, along with modern vocal techniques. She works with a diverse group of students, including children as young as 7, teenagers, young adults, and adults at various skill levels. Adéle’s varied experiences in different settings and cultures in South Africa have prepared her to understand the needs of both parents and students as they pursue their musical dreams, fostering a positive and trusting community. She offers both online lessons through MADA, and in-person lessons at her studio in Helderkruin, Roodepoort.

Adéle teaches both piano and vocal performance, and a syllabus offered from internationally accredited sources like the Trinity Guildhall of London, Rock School, and the ABRSM. Students can aim to achieve music grades or strive for personal skills development. Her teaching style emphasizes authentic interpretation, and encouraging students to sing and play with genuine emotion in various genres. She believes that with the right mix of time, discipline, passion, and commitment, students can achieve impressive results. Her warm and supportive teaching methods creates a safe yet focused environment, helping students develop skills in interpretation, descipline, and concentration. Her unique approach from a well-equipped skillset instructs and guides her piano and keyboard students towards the goal of developing band members, vocalists, worship team members, or singer-songwriters. Since music is a performing art, she encourages her students to build confidence while embracing and celebrating public performance as an exciting goal to serve the community.

Timothy Kazembe

Timothy is a highly experienced musician who has taught at various music schools and private schools all around the country. He has his Bachelor of music degree in Jazz, Grade 5 Jazz saxophone through ABRSM, Jazz piano Grade 5 through ABRSM, and Grade 8 guitar though ABRSM.

Timothy offers Rockschool exams through Trinity for electric, acoustic, and bass guitar. Rockschool music qualifications are tailor-made for the contemporary musician. They range from the introductory grades to advanced levels of study. These exams will improve your playing ability and expand your technical proficiency whilst giving you a solid foundation of music theory – all whilst learning some of the most iconic tracks from the world of popular music.

 

Geoff Harris

Geoff has been teaching music for over 10 years on various instruments and styles. He plays keys and electric guitar on a church band team, and specializes in teaching worship music. His passion is teaching kids from a young age to play music, especially in groups on xylophones and percussion instruments.

Geoff has previously been a school music teacher, a music concert director and began composing and arranging music since 2005. He has taught music at various private schools, and is also involved in his church’s worship team. Geoff has started teaching music at Little Flock Nursery School this year and is teaching the children to play various instruments.

Jan de Lange

Jan is a skilled piano specialist with a diverse musical background, including piano performance across various styles, choral conducting, music theory, voice, and guitar. A 2015 graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand specializing in classical piano, he has over 13 years of experience teaching students of all levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.

His musical journey began in his formative years, and he has served as a passionate worship leader since his teenage years — a role that continues to inspire him. With mastery of advanced piano techniques, practical music theory, and extensive performance experience, he offers his students access to a wealth of musical knowledge. Whether you're starting from scratch, looking to improve your skills, or simply playing for enjoyment, Jan is ready to guide you on your musical journey.
